child health & well-being

“It takes a whole village to raise a child,” is an old African proverb meaning that child upbringing is a communal responsibility.

PITARP champions child well-being and contributes to the development of a sustainable child-friendly society in Western region in Kenya, with child-friendly policies and practices at all levels of society based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, and the African Charter on the Rights & Welfare of the Child. We strive to entrench children’s rights into the fabric of society at every level through awareness-raising, training, mentorship, advocacy and building a children rights movement including children and adults as partners.

 Strategic Goal

Our strategic goal is to advocate and educate the community on the rights of the child.

Strategic Objectives

Our strategic objectives are to:

  • Increase the number of parents, guardians and the general community members who are educated in the content and practical meaning of children rights as set out in the UN CRC, the African Charter on Rights and Welfare of Child, and the Kenyan Constitution as well as other commitments and legal provisions;
  • Support duty bearers to implement child rights programming (policies and practices) in realizing the protection and promotion of children’s rights in their work.
  • Increase the levels of local monitoring for the realization of children's rights in a wide range of contexts and the number and effectiveness of advocacy actions taken by adults and children to fulfill, protect and promote their rights as well as to re-dress violations where and when these occur within each community and organisation.
  • Effectively govern and manage the Children’s Rights Center to provide leadership and a stable base for fulfillment of our vision, mission and interventions.
